Tale of two shows

Meredith Vieira gave an interview to TV News Check about this and that, including the two syndie game shows she's hosted.

She contrasted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and 25 Words or Less in some interesting ways. The word game is faster,  and it offers more humor and "antics." Fair enough. Millionaire was a serious quizzer. 25 Words is sort of a goofy Password knockoff.

Meredith talks about how she landed the two jobs. Regis Philbin didn't want to do the syndicated version of Millionaire, so showrunner Michael Davies turned to her. For 25 Words Fox execs offered her a 15-episode tryout during the summer of 2018, and the show got a full pickup for the 2019-20 season. She was a little surprised. Even though I thought it was a good game, I never thought we'd be picked up.

Now 25 Words has earned a renewal for a second season, and the ratings have been trending nicely upward. I don't know if Meredith will last eleven seasons with the show as she did with Millionaire, but she will be around for at least a couple years with her second game show hosting gig.
