The most poignant moment occurred when Alex Trebek said at the top of Jeopardy that he was happy to still be here. That got deserved applause from the audience and contestants. Otherwise, the show wasn't much of a contest. Six-time winner Jason Zuffranieri became a seven-time winner in a one-sided runaway. He's taken $166,500 of Sony's money now.
The big news on Wheel was the triple $2,000 toss-up that replaced the old $3,000 toss-up. I really liked this new wrinkle in the gameplay. It didn't slow down the show at all as the toss-ups clicked quickly one after the other. In a bit of self-congratulation the producers couldn't resist a puzzle (not a toss-up) that bragged: "We're back and better than ever."
The shows are definitely back, and they're certainly no worse than before. Good luck to Alex on the new season. And keep the triple toss-ups coming.
