On the road again

A faux tweet linked to an interesting interview with Todd Newton, one of the main hosts of The Price is Right's endlessly touring live show.

Todd talks about how he learned from the master, Bob Barker, to prepare for his road warrior-ing. Newton was in the running to inherit the TV job when Barker retired. But showrunner Roger Dobkowitz, among others, thought the Todd was a little too slick, a little too pre-conditioned by his live show experience to bring any freshness to the TV gig. Of course, Roger wasn't a big Drew Carey fan, either, and Drew's done okay with the TV show.

In my own professional career I didn't have to travel much, but I never liked the road. Todd must have a different attitude. In the interview he talks how he just came off shows in Houston and Austin and loved every minute. And now he's getting ready for a show in Nebraska. We have a couple of days off. So I am recharging the batteries a little bit and dry cleaning the game show host suits and then we’ll be ready to hit the road again.

Willie Nelson sang a song about it.
