Prime time blues

Scrounging around for ratings news, I noted this not so tasty tidbit on Show Buzz Daily.

Question: May we have the 9/9:30 episodes of Snap Decision and 10/10:30 of Divided on GSN once the listings come in? Thank you! Answer: Snap: 0.04/237K, 0.05/191K Divided: 0.04/188K, 0.05/208K. Even by GSN's less than sky-high standards, these 18-49 ratings and total viewer numbers are bad. (All figures are for the August 22 eps.)

This is one more sad stage in GSN's futile quest to find another prime time mainstay besides Steve Harvey's Family Feud. The network has tried and tried and tried, with both originals and acquisitions. Right now they've got no fewer than four originals bouncing around prime time: Snap Decision, Idiotest, Divided and Emogenius. I happen to think that the shows range from pretty good to very good. Certainly none of them are awful.

Too bad the great American unwashed doesn't seem to agree with me. The shows pull so-so to worse total viewer numbers. Idiotest gets okay demos by the network's elderly standards, but that's about it for the good Nielsen news.

If I had a fix for this problem, I might have landed the GSN president's job when David Goldhill left (just kidding, don't freak out). One of these days you'd think GSN would hit on a show by sheer accident that would help Mr. Harvey carry the prime time load.
